A 7 a.m. shift at Ahus: does your commute work on Saturdays?
We tested public transport from Fetsund, Sørumsand and Rånåsfoss to Ahus on two Tuesdays and three Saturdays. Shift times changed the picture.
Editorial guidance from SearchNova editorial
A 40-minute commute can sound reasonable when choosing a home. For shift workers, however, the more important question is whether public transport runs when work starts and finishes.
SearchNova tested 30 Entur Journey Planner scenarios from Fetsund, Sørumsand and Rånåsfoss to Akershus University Hospital (Ahus), covering Tuesdays 3 and 10 November and Saturdays 7, 14 and 21 November 2026. The research was carried out on 27 October 2026.

The comparison
| Scenario | Fetsund | Sørumsand | Rånåsfoss |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tuesday: arrive by 06:40 | Found (2/2) | Found (2/2) | Found (2/2) |
| Tuesday: depart after 23:15 | Found (2/2) | Found (2/2) | Found (2/2) |
| Saturday: arrive by 06:40 | None returned (0/3) | None returned (0/3) | None returned (0/3) |
| Saturday: depart after 23:15 | Found (3/3) | Found (3/3) | Found (3/3) |

Weekday connections do not tell the whole story
On both Tuesdays, Entur returned a transit itinerary arriving by 06:40 from all three reference points. On all three Saturdays, none of the searches returned a qualifying transit itinerary for that early arrival deadline. Late returns after 23:15 were found on all five dates.
This does not prove Saturday morning travel is impossible. Alternative stops, routes, access times or timetable coverage may change the result. It does show why a normal rush-hour journey time is insufficient for evaluating shift-work suitability.

What should a homebuyer check?
Check actual shift start and end times, weekend service, waiting time after work, transfers, walking distance from the home, and the entrance used at the workplace. A service that exists on a timetable may still be impractical for a particular address or schedule.
Sources and methodology
SearchNova Homes analysed 30 journey scenarios using data from Entur Journey Planner, covering five dates in November 2026. The analysis was conducted on 27 October 2026.

Limitations
Entur Journey Planner v3 was queried on 27 October 2026 for 30 scenarios: two Tuesdays and three Saturdays, early arrival by 06:40 and late departure after 23:15. Geocoding placed Fetsund and Sørumsand centre proxies at their stations; Rånåsfoss was represented by its station. The hospital reference was Sykehusveien 25, Lørenskog. These are not verified door-to-door residential journeys or confirmed staff-entrance routes.
Only itineraries with a transit leg qualified. The searches did not exhaust every alternative stop or verify reliability and walking routes. No itinerary returned does not establish that transport is unavailable. Check current timetables before relying on the results.
